Master Largo News To Honor Master Largo for all the work he did on the newsletter we have kept our letter titled Master Largo News. |
July 2019
Mum got to the vet office before OFD got there, we were let in at 7:45 to get some paperwork done before OFD started seeing us kids. Our appointment was at 8 am. Mum took Jack and Mike, Jax and Penelope, Josie, and Donut. I (Bandit) went with them so Mum could give me, my mid-morning meds. Jax and Penelope's records were still with the original owner, Mum got them moved to our shelter folder they were both due for vaccines so they got that done.
Mum took the 2 implants that Dr Sandra left us last summer, OFD put the donated ones in Mike, and Penelope.
OFD put another in Donut. Jack got his spinal x-rays, there are no signs of tumor or growth on Jacks spine. OFD says it looks like there is a calcified disk in the lower spine. Jack does not appear to be in pain, there's nothing more we can do to change his disability. He gets around, gets where he wants to go, including up on the shelf in his cage. we will except what mobility he has and be thankful.
Josie's surgery went well, she came home with 4 stitches on the top of her head. She's bouncing around without that ugly basil cell tumor on her head.
Jax. it seems what Mum is feeling in his belly is an enlarged spleen, that in itself is no big deal, however OFD says he can feel the spleen has gnarly bumps all over it. That is a problem, OFD says it's probably Lymphoma. We need to schedule surgery to remove the spleen. We first talked about doing a course of antibiotic but the bumps pretty much tell us that is not going to make a difference. That surgery is an overnight gig so Mum will need to coordinate with Miss Donna D. for pick-up on a Friday night to meet her 1/2 way to get him home.
Mum called her sister Linda at the beginning of the week, to see if they could meet up while Mum was in Brockport waiting for Josie to get done with her surgery. Linda had a vet coming to her farm for the horses so they scraped that idea. They decided they would check in after the vet visits they had in the morning. It turned out Linda's vet was there on time, our scheduled visits with OFD went off without a hitch so Mum went out to spend time with her sister Linda. Linda lives about 15 min North of Brockport a short jaunt from OFD office. Mum took me, (Bandit) into the house to do my meds, the rest of the ferrets stayed in the van out under the tree with all the doors open for the cool breeze to flow through. Mum did tuck a frozen bottle of water in each of our carriers just to be safe. It was nice to hang out and catch up, Linda is retired from teaching. The farm is keeping her busy. Mum was not up to walking the farm so she got to see the cows, horses and chickens in the pasture from the living room window.
Mum stayed at Linda's house till 1, OFD told her Josie would not be ready until 2. Mum dropped into Wegman's before she picked up Josie, when Mum got back to the hospital she was told Josie was just waking up it would be a few more minutes. Mum settled the bill, packed Josie in the van and headed home.
Mum pulled ferrets out of the carriers, put them away, got the night shift up, did meds. She was too pooped to pull carriers out of the van, that will be a job for another day. Mum took pictures of all the carriers and things she takes with us on our trips to see OFD.
It was a long day, but Mum was pleased to get many of us in to see OFD. The picture of the last carrier way in the back was mine. Thanks for asking about our trip to Our Favorite Doc!

Hello cyber friends and shelter supporters, it's been a very long time! Mum seems to be able to keep up with us and the shelter between her bus runs, but computer time has become a challenge. So much so I got to spend time with Miss Kathy C. discussing all the new tax laws and how it affects us at the shelter. Since we want to include everyone that wants to help Mum take care of us this is what Miss Kathy told me I needed to pass on to you.. Now don't be rolling your eyes I was able to understand it, so we know you can...
So the important opportunity for making your donation to LFFR/S You'll need our Tax ID # to make your tax-free gift whether or not you itemize your 2018 taxes. This is it here: 42-1695576
People older than 70.5 can transfer up to $100,000 per year from their traditional IRAs to charity, which can count as their required minimum distribution but is not taxable if they follow the rules for a qualified charitable distribution (QCD). (This doesn't apply to a Roth IRA, which has tax-free withdrawals and no required distributions.) The gift stays out of your adjusted gross income only if you make a direct transfer from your IRA to the charity. It doesn't count as a tax-free transfer if you withdraw the money first and then make a donation to the charity. Ask your IRA administrator what steps you need to take, because the procedures can vary from firm to firm. I know you older friends want to be smart like me.
Now that we got that out of the way I can catch you up on what has been going on at the shelter. We had some elderly ferrets come in, Tessa and Rowan, their owners are long time shelter supporters, Miss Karly was diagnosed with a brain tumor which means they could no longer keep the ferrets because Miss Karly needed to go where she could get 24/7 care. So Mum said she would help them out now by taking them in.
Oak is back at camp for a couple of weeks. Mum is taking Bandit, Max and Shy to Our Favorite Doc (OFD) on Feb 21 during her winter break from the Big Yellow Thingy. Bandit has a basil cell tumor that needs to be removed and Max and Shy will be going to a new home we hope on the 23rd of February. Bandit is going to have to stay over night at the hospital, Miss Donna D. is going to pick her up the next day for Mum. Mum is still working on the thank you Christmas cards for all of the humans that sent us presents for Christmas, as I said Mum is not getting much time in front of the computer these days, and she needs the computer to do this so they get the pictures she took of us opening our presents. Mum works on them as she can. Mum is going to send our Valentine greeting with this news just in case she doesn't get to sit in front of the computer before the 14th. We want to send kudos to Miss Sue B. for all the wonderful graphics she does for us. Miss Sue has been doing our art work for years, thanks Miss Sue for all you do for us!
It seems Mum is calling, says it is time for me to get bouncing back down to the shelter.
Gotta bounce,

Happy, Happy New Year to all our cyber friends and shelter supporters!
2018 has been a challenge with Mum's health, keeping a low census to allow Mum to work and do shelter. We are thankful to the volunteers that spent time at the shelter to help mum do the daily things she had to do for us. Barriers were revamped so when Mum couldn't climb them she could open them and walk through them. We are thankful to the families that took in ferrets that needed a place to go that Mum could not bring in to the shelter. The ferrets got a new home and Mum did not have to fuss for worrying about them.
We are thankful that Mum is back on her feet and moving, although not quite as fast as she used to, she's back to work doing all 3 bus runs. We do challenge her at times by getting in front of her feet, she just does not have the ability to jump over us like she used to.. we think it's funny - Mum not so much.
We are thankful for another successful year. We are blessed that so many of you help Mum take care of us, and help us take care of our Mum. We wish for you a very happy New Year!
Time to go bounce,
Lance
