August 17, 2024:
Aurora was pacing and begging to get up so I set her in the kitchen.
Aurora is gone. She passed laying in my arms wrapped in a blanket, while I whispered in her ear I loved her.
August 16, 2024:
Aurora ate all the treats I left her 6 they are tiny, and 1/2 the soup I left her last night. This morning she ate her entire bowl of soup on her own, I set another bowl of soup in her cage before I left the ferret room.
August 15, 2024:
Both Aurora and Casper refused soup by dropper. I believe Aurora must be eating some kibble there was a good size poo on her pad.
Update on Aurora. She was up pacing at her cage gate, I let her out to roam. She was eating the peanut butter treats that were in the treat dish. They are the bil-jac treats we use. They are better than the Marshall's brand. Anyway she moseyed into the playroom with one in her mouth, crawled into the sleep sack she prefers; is now taking a nap...She will spend the night in the library/window end rooms. I left her more treats and a bowl of soup if she should want it. She gets what she wants when she wants it, is not forced to do what she does not want to do. I truly thought I would find her gone this morning. Bless her little heart she is still kicking.
August 14, 2024:
I needed to dropper feed Aurora this morning. Aurora is fighting food, she didn't want anything to do with her 9 am and noon soup. She didn't want anything to do with the dropper of soup at 4, it looks like I'm going to have to make the decision for her.
August 13, 2024:
Aurora is hanging in she is getting soup/meds 4 am. soup only at 9 am and noon. 4pm soup/meds.
August 12, 2024:
Aura is not eating as well as she was. She did not eat her noon soup yesterday, nor did she eat her evening soup. I fed her the soup this morning on my lap. She ate it well. It looks like when I make her soup she will be eating it on my lap. Aurora is eating all her soup as long as I hold her in my lap. I'm offering soup every 2 to 3 hours.
August 8, 2024:
Aurora doesn't seem to be eating kibble, which could be why she wants more than 1 bowl of soup. I gave her two at morning soup time a bowl at noon and I will give her more at meds time. She's not fussy about it being warm so I will set a bowl in her cage before I shut the shelter down, she will have enough to keep her going during the night.
July 29, 2024:
Aurora is hanging in, she skipped her morning meds yesterday, I got her up, warmed her soup and held her so she could eat it. she finished it sitting in my lap. She was out and about in the playroom last night, she did eat her soup on her own.
July 24, 2024:
I forgot to tell you last night that when I got Aurora up for her evening soup/meds I found black sticky poo in her poo box. She ate all her soup last night this morning her poo looked better. I can see she is physically slowing down.
June 14, 2024:
I'm not sure I told you I started Aurora on ear meds again. I called Dr. Licata office to let her know.
June 12, 2024:
Aurora was buzzing around the ferret room this morning, begging for treats. She ate all her soup tonight. I did take a nap mid morning.
June 11, 2024:
AM: Aurora was warm to the touch and responsive when I got down stairs this morning. She had 2 decent poo in her box. She had her soup with meds, then I got her up to spend time in the window end, she slithered up the tube into her favorite sleep spot. Last night I went down to check on her, she was tucked in her sleep box, she was not squeaking anymore. When I put my hand in to check on her she bit me. A defensive move when animals are sick and feel vulnerable. I lifted her box to let her know it was me checking on her. I hope she just ate too much too fast to cause her tummy upset.
PM: Aurora spent her time in the window end in the towel covered tote. He favorite place to sleep. She got left locked up last night she needed some time out. The bowl of soup I set in front of her was just 2 spoonful with Pred. She ate every drop, was looking for more. I gave her another 3 spoonful.
June 10, 2024:
Aurora is part of night shift today, I served her the soup with meds, she was looking for more soup so I gave her another bowl. shortly after she finished that she started gagging and running to hide. Then she started to squeak, ran under the cage still squeaking. I got her out from under the cage, tried offering her some ferretone she wasn't interested. I put her back in her cage to be sure I could find her to check on her during the night.

May 21, 2024:
Tomorrow is Aurora's last day of ear meds.
May 10, 2024:
The ointment Dr. Licata sent home with us is working, I can see and get to Aurora's ear canal this morning. I was able to get the ointment in her ear instead of on the outside of the ear. canal.
May 8, 2024:
The vet visit went well, we even got into the exam room a bit early. I'm so glad that our trip to the vet is in the opposite direction of rush hour, bumper to bumper traffic. I can't imagine doing that every day twice a day.
Aurora has a bacterial and yeast infection in both ears. We have a prescription ointment to put in both ears twice a day for 14 days. The reason Tina and I could not see into her ear canal is because of the inflammation. Hopefully the ointment will fix her ears, and make her feel better.
April 10, 2024:
Aurora has something funky going on in her ears, Tina and I tried to figure out what it is in her ears, it looks to the both of us like some sort of tumor. I made an appointment to get her in to see Dr. Licata on May 8th at 9:20 am. She's eating, drinking and hanging out in normal fashion so I saw no reason to take a sick spot.
January 21, 2024:
Aurora is doing better now that she is on Pred.
July 24, 2023:
When I was getting Aurora and Bear up this morning for their Meds, Aurora was in the hammock, Bear in the sleep box. I stuck my hand in to get Bear up, sometime during the night she left for Rainbow Bridge. She showed no signs she was not well, she ate her soup with Meds last night. She is gone.
June 13, 2023 AM:
Post-op kids are doing very well I'm going to let Aurora and Bear out of the sick pen in a couple of days to hang out in a small play area, for a bit. Thursday will be a week after surgery they are healed enough to get a bit more move about room. They still will need to be kept in rooms there is nothing to climb, I'll put them back in the sick pen after they get some out time, until I remove their stitches.
June 10, 2023 AM:
Both post-op kids are doing well, Bear moved herself out of the sack and into the pile of blankets I put in the middle of the sick pen. She ate her soup this morning staying under the blankets. Tigger was bright and alert, he was moving easily and ready to get up for his soup.
PM: I offered Bear and Tigger soup around noon, they both ate all of it. I had Tigger in the pan eating his evening soup with meds, I took the soup into Aurora and Bear, when I came back to the ferret room Tigger had finished his bowl of soup, he was standing on the side of the island eating soup out of the blender I had sitting next to him. They are both looking brighter. Their incisions look good.
June 9, 2023:
Both Bear and Tigger came through the surgery, OFD said the masses were straight forward in removal, Doc took some nodes off Bear's pancreas while he was in there. The labs that were done showed Tigger has the start of insulinoma. I've been giving him soup daily because he was at time lethargic. I can tell both ferrets are uncomfortable but they ate their soup well this morning.
March 3, 2021:
Donut is gone, OFD called at 1 this afternoon with the news that Donut wasn't improving, she was refusing food and water even if held and dropper fed. That is not quality of life IMHO, OFD didn't disagree. He said her heart rate had only gone up to 80 even without fluid in her chest.
March 3, 2021:
The update from OFD yesterday morning was Donut was slightly improved. She may be able to come home today. he's going to call me this morning to let me know the plan.
March 2, 2021:
OFD called - Donuts heart is the problem, her heart rate was 76. He was going to give her some Lasix last night. We agreed that quality over quantity. He will call me this morning with a report.
March 1, 2021:
Donut is up at the hospital with OFD, Donna bless her heart met me in Bloomfield took Donut the rest of the way to Brockport. Doc told her he would call me when he has some answers.
February 28, 2021:
AM: everyone is stable except Donut. She definitely looks and acts like she feels like crap. I'm going to call OFD tomorrow to get her in ASAP. I expect what is going on is something he isn't going to be able to fix but I want to see if we can make her more comfortable.
PM: Donut is definitely not doing well. I gave her some fluids this afternoon that made a slight difference in making her more comfortable. She has no desire to get up and get out she is alone in the cage curled up in the Snoopy bed. Aurora was picking on Donut this morning. I hope I can get her into Doc this week.
February 26, 2021:
Donut is doing a bit better, she still looks like she isn't feeling well. I'm going to call OFD on Monday to see if I can get her in. I think there is more going on than just insulinoma.
February 25, 2021:
Donut is slightly improved but she did take her noon and evening med without a fuss.
February 24, 2021:
AM: Donut is acting a bit off, I was able to get enough blood to get a reading from the glucose meter. Her numbers were 52 this morning. She did not want her soup. I dropper fed her for as long as she would take the soup. Until I get her numbers up I will give her meds by dropper from now on.
PM: Donut is still acting lethargic, but I was able to get her to take a full dropper of soup with meds tonight.
February 23, 2021:
I tried to get a BG from Donut at noon but I could get no blood from her, she was feeling better and responsive, she ate all her soup. I tried again to get a reading at pm meds I still couldn't get blood. I will have to work on that again in the morning.

Initial Contact, May 4, 2019:
Hi my name is heather and I have 3 female ferrets. I am going away for college in a few months and don’t have the time they deserve. I did research into the ferret farm and feel that this would be the best fit for them.
