August 8, 2023: Tom left with Maggie a few hours ago. I'm going to miss that little energizer bunny!

July 21, 2023: Maggie discovered the cabinet the ferrets sleep in she couldn't fine a way in. I opened the top door, set her in so she could find her way out. She did. When she got to the floor she turned around to go back up the tube. She's not quite strong enough to scale the part that is attached to the cabinet it's almost 90 degrees. I expect she will be able to in no time.

July 20, 2023: I had Maggie in the ferret room with me, she discovered the corn starch peanut box, how to get in and out of it. She was playing with me, I would tickle her tummy, she'd get all crazy run away then come back for more. She is allowing me to touch her and play with her. 2 weeks 3 days it took her to start acting like a ferret.

July 17, 2023: Maggie is in the ferret room for the night, she has gotten better about staying away from my feet, she is allowing me to hold her for more than a few seconds. I think she is going to be okay. she has a sebaceous cyst on the right side of her back, as long as she doesn't make it bleed it won't be a problem.

July 16, 2023: Michael helped me weigh Maggie, She's up to 1# 11 oz

July 14, 2023: I let Maggie out of her pen to hang with me while I cleaned up the library and cleaned cages, I finally had to put her in the the window end play area she kept getting under my feet, I stepped on her once. Staying away from my feet is a learning curve, however since I'm not moving as fast as I used to, most of the ferrets think they can hang at my feet. Maggie is getting her first night up all night.

July 12, 2023: Maggie had a breakthrough today. I was in the playroom doing something I looked over the pen wall, Maggie was going from one side to another stopping looking up, moving to the next side. I needed to clean her pen so I took her to the window end play area set her down on the blankets closed up the gates. Maggie was checking everything out. She finally got to the tube that allows the ferrets to get up in the box to sleep, she stuck her head in, backed out, stuck her head in again, then walked up the tube to the bedding. I left her there most of the day, I went looking for her at soup time, I found her in the barrel sound asleep. I put her back in her pen for the night. Oh I also set her down on the floor so I could collect Aurora, she kept following my feet. When I picked her up to take her to her pen she didn't fight to get down.

July 12, 2023: Maggie seems to doing a lot of eating she should be gaining weight in no time. She also seems to be walking better on all four feet. Maggie is doing well, when I checked on her early afternoon she was eating, I didn't bother her. I checked on her a bit later, cleaned up the poo while she was walking around her bed. Before I left the room I picked her up, she feels like she has put on some weight. I did not try to weigh her she's too jumpy, I'll wait until I have someone to spot her while I check how much she weighs.

July 11, 2023: Little Maggie did well last night. I found 4 well formed poo in the pen. It appears she ate some of the soup I left her the saucer. I got her up to give her soup this morning, she took 20 ml. She's bright and active. She does not like to be handled, I have to wrap her in a blanket to keep hold of her while I dropper feed her. We are going to call her Maggie. I'm sending pictures of Maggie, I took them around noon. she's doing okay, she's eating I know this because she's pooping. Maggie got an email from Mary Ellen, Maggie was notified that Mary Ellen got the little one some welcome to the shelter gifts from Amazon.

July 10, 2023: Tom and Samantha who has the ferret are meeting up at 10 this morning. I will set up the sick pen to see if I can get him/her back to better/good health. I didn't think the ferret would survive the night however Tom's text this morning reported that the ferret was eating. we have our work cut out for us today.

Little girl is here, Tom got in about 3 pm with her. Tom was to meet up with Samantha at 10, she didn't show until 11. which put him behind schedule. When Tom called Samantha to see where she was, she said she was on her way, it was already after 10. It's good she was meeting Tom, I would have said I'm leaving. I offered Maggie soup before I settled her in the sick pen, she took about 11 ml. I left her a saucer in the pen, she has kibble and water too. Hopefully I will find poo in the morning, means she is eating.
Maggie looks to be a light silver, Tom and I weighed her, she only weighs 1# she is snuggled in the big blanket in the sick pen. She is not in as bad of shape as I had expected, we'll fatten her up and get her in to see OFD once she is stable.

Initial Contact, July 9, 2023: Hi there I just picked up a ferret I believe has been abused. I am trying to get my locals involved but they don't seem to eager to assist me. I have contacted the SPCA and they said they would make a note of it. I have a vet but I don't think I have the funds or experience to handle this situation. She has been starved. If you can offer any ideas or assistance I would appreciate it

Shelter Response: Where are you located? I'm shutting down for the night call this number. I will wait until 6:30 to take your call. Tom R. will accept the little one from you and transport to Naples. He is calling you tonight. I have attached the surrender form that needs to be filled out, give the filled form to Tom.
