Rocky, AKA Twoey
• Surrendered to the Shelter on March 24, 2019. He found a Forever Home on October 19, 2019! He returned to the Shelter on November 14, 2019 and found a Forever Home on December 22, 2019! He left for the Rainbow Bridge September 9, 2020. |
September 9, 2020:
Hi Brenda: I wanted to pass along the sad news that Lisa and I were at Dr. Chris's office to help both Panda and Rocky cross the bridge. Panda adopted Lisa at your place close to six years ago (January 2015) and Rocky came to us through a contact with you in August of 2015. Panda was the sweetest little girl and loved to be held, and loved her people. Rocky was also very mellow and a sweet guy. Both of them represented the shelter at the Tails on the Trail 5k event two years ago, though Rock spent most of the afternoon asleep (Panda spent most of the day in Tina's arms). Rocky had been dealing with insulinoma for quite some time, and Panda had developed a fairly aggressive inoperable tumor on her lower abdomen. They are both going to be dearly missed, though we know that we did the right thing for them. - Pete
April 22, 2020:
I've been meaning to get a note off to you to let you know that Remy and Twoie (Rocky) are doing very well. We were able to integrate them with Panda, Rocky and Junior, and they all get along well. Panda and Rocky (ours) are both "seniors" so it is nice that Junior has buddies a little closer in his age to play with. Lisa and I are both doing well (both working), and trying to take good care of ourselves. I hope you and the gang are all well.
January 16, 2020:
Hi Brenda: Remy and Rocky (we are referring to him as "Twoey" ) have been fully integrated into our group of Panda, Rocky, and Junior. Remy, even with all his rambunctiousness is very social and gets along well with others (he frequently can be found sleeping with our Rocky curled up in a sleep sack), so we were able to bring him in fairly effortlessly. Rocky (Twoey), we had been taking things a little slower so as not to stress him or the others.
January 3, 2020:
Hi Brenda: I am so happy that Rocky has found a forever home. I have been meaning to get a note off to you to let you know that it may be awhile for us to be able to provide him with a home, and that if another family came along to not hesitate in placing him. Remy and Rocky are both doing well, and adjusting to life with us. Remy has proven to be a handful, but is also a pretty social ferret, and can spend "out" time with our Rocky (Rocky #1), Junior and Panda. He can also spend "out" time with new Rocky (Rocky #2) though Rocky #2 is a little apprehensive of new ferrets so we are gently introducing him to life with siblings. At the moment we are running three groups though at times it can be four. Remy and Rocky #2 each get there own cage at night. We have conclusively found that Bam and Ellen (the two I picked up from you 2+ years ago) will not allow the introduction of a third ferret into their group (this is not a surprise). They are a bonded pair and both go into attack mode towards any other ferret. The plan moving forward is to run two groups; one that consist of Rocky #1, Rocky #2, Remy, Panda, and Junior, and the other consisting of Bam and Ellen. At this time taking it slow and letting Rocky#2 and Remy know that they baoth have a forever home.

Hi Brenda: I just want to get a quick note off to you before my day gets too out of hand. Remy and Rocky are doing well. Remy is A LOT of ferret. He has tons of energy, and seems to have taken the move in stride. We have done short introductions with a couple of our guys and he is very excitable, and social. He is definitely not a beginners ferret and though not vicious he is excitable and needs to be handled with care. Rocky is also doing well but I think the new environment will be a little harder on him than Remy. He is eating drinking and pooping well, but we are letting him ease into life here gently. I think being a little older, having recent surgery, and being placed and then returned, may leave him a little more susceptible to stress than Remy, so we are working to make the transition for him as comfortable as possible.

December 19, 2019:
Brenda: Lisa and I have been discussing additions to our household. We had been talking about bringing Remy and Rocky home, and now we are also considering Rocky II. We are a little concerned about cage space and set up, and all other things logistic. I am thinking of possibly coming out on Sunday.

Brenda's reply: That works. Rocky II is going to see OFD on Monday for vaccines and check up. Sunday works for us. Keep me posted on what you decide.
November 27, 2019:
Rocky - has been moved into a cage, I will work on getting his stitches out this weekend. He is doing well, although I forgot when I put him in the cage he only eats Marshalls food so his poo was icky and sticky this morning, I got the mixes out of his cage and the Marshalls in he was eating when I walked out of the shelter this morning to have my coffee.
November 18, 2019:
Rocky is doing well he went through 4 bowls of soup yesterday. This morning he had his soup with Moxy. Poop and peeing well.
November 16, 2019:
Rocky is in the sick pen, more active than he should be but there is nothing for him to climb on. He ate his soup with Moxy, seemed to want more so I gave him a second bowl. He ate that too. He looks bright and happy.
November 15, 2019:
I found a late night/early morning text from Dayna yesterday. Rocky was not doing well refusing to eat. After consulting with Dr Sandra she said it sounded like a stricture he needed OFD. I got back to Dayna with that information telling her that if that is what is going on there will be nothing I can do to fix it.
She was going to bring him to us for fluids at 9. I called OFD before I left the parking lot at work, told them what was going on and Rocky needed to be seen. I then called Dayna to tell her OFD was expecting them. She conveyed they could not afford another surgery and did not feel comfortable putting him to sleep, they will surrender him back to the shelter. I agreed we would take him back to get him treated.
That is what Dayna did, walked into the hospital told them they were surrendering him back to Lakeroad, handed him over to the technician. Doc has copies of our surrender papers on file. I called OFD when I got back from my afternoon run, before I got off my bus. They close at 5 it was 10 min to 5 when I got back. OFD came to the phone to tell me he found 3 hair balls in Rocky, 2 in his tummy one in his intestine. See attached. These are bigger than the one he took out of him 2 weeks ago. Doc said he can come home today, I called Donna to see if she would pick him up from Brockport meet me in Avon. I'll buy us lunch.
Both OFD and Doc Sandra said that looks like cat fur. Dayna has a long haired cat that kept getting into Rocky's pen so it is conceivable it is cat fur.
November 2, 2019:
I got a call from Dayna, Rocky's new Mom, he was in medical trouble. After spending time on the phone and seeing pictures of his poo I suggested she get him into OFD - ASAP . She did call them, they did take him in he needed surgery, he had a hair ball blockage. He is still in the hospital. I need to get a sick pen to them so he has a place to recover. They have levels in his cage, he can't stretch of climb for at least 10 days.
October 25, 2019:
I just wanted to let you know that I hung out with Rocky a bit extra today and fed him two soup cubes and also hand fed him some marshall ferret food and he pooped the below poop this afternoon. Much better. Yay.
I’ll keep up on the soup and hand feeding to be sure he’s eating enough but I would still really like the soup recipe so I can make him some more this weekend.

Hi Brenda, I just wanted to touch base because in the past few days Rocky’s poops have gotten less formed and more runny. I wanted to see what you would advise doing. I fed him soup this morning and sat with him on the floor and he ate some Marshall ferret food too. What else do I need to be doing and how often should I feed him soup?
I also wanted to get the soup recipe so I could make some more for him.

Shelter Mum: Here is the picture I took yesterday, this will be the one that goes up on the web site. How did Lani and Rocky do yesterday? Did you take a bag with the gadgets I had set aside for the water bottle? I can't find it and I don't remember handing it to you. I also forgot to send a hammock, I'll get one mailed out this week. If you don't have the bag I will need to track that down and mail that too.
Owner's response: Thanks for the picture. Rocky did well. He is eating and drinking and peeing and pooping a bunch. He got in the rice and snorkeled around and was pretty funny in it. I did not get the bag of gadgets for the water but it seems to be working with the bungee. We did get a bigger clip on bowl to put below it so it is dripping into the bowl. I also made a few more cut down boxes for him to keep on Noelani’s floor in her bedroom for when he’s out. We just need to wait and watch to see where he wants to poo when he’s out.
My sons have been very interested in him too but so far Noelani does not want them to bother her and Rocky. I told her someday she’s gonna need to get over that because they can take care of him for her if she spends a night at a friends house.
Before we were getting ready for bed he was sleeping with his head hanging out of that potty sleeping box of his but when Noelani came into the room and he heard her talking he groggily woke up to see her and she took him out again. It was pretty cute.
I also noticed on the vet paperwork that he had a Rabies vaccine in February but not Distemper so I was thinking that we could do that in June when we come out to the farm when the Dr is there. If I should do it sooner just let me know and I can get a vet appointment scheduled.
Oh and Sandy finished the stuff we ordered so I think it will be shipped on Monday so no need to ship us a temporary hammock. I put the hammock from the carrier in his cage to get him through the few days but he’s mostly been in the crinkly blue pocket you gave us and his potty bed.
April 19, 2019:
Rocky has discovered he is a ferret, he also thinks he's a bull dozer. He pulls and pushes the beds and things all over the place. I found the little Portable Pen I have under the table at the top of the stairs moved to the bathroom door.
April 4, 2019:
As I was working around Rocky yesterday he was dooking and dancing, jumping up on my leg. He has finally moved himself out of the poo box and up onto the shelf to sleep on top of his bungalow.
March 31, 2019:
Rocky...he started acting like a real ferret today, by the time Donna was getting ready to leave he was dooking and playing with us some. I love to watch them transform into real ferrets when they come in not knowing they are ferrets.
March 30, 2019:
The new kid Rocky - he sleeps in his poo pan, I tried a round bed, not interested, I tried a flat bed not interested in that. He does however drag the blanket I gave him into the poo pan. I'm not sure why he insists on sleeping in the pan. He is however eating soup on his own. Donna and I weighed him last weekend he was 3# 10oz he's a big boy. He has yet to be a real ferret, he has tried a few times but he has no idea how to play.
March 25, 2019:
I found Rocky sleeping in the poo pan this morning. I've not looked any further to see if he is pooing in there too. I'm going to take the sleep box out and put a snoopy bed in there, maybe he will like that better.
PM Update: Rocky, new kid seems to be doing okay. He gave me a pretty good size, good looking poo this morning when I got him up. He is a lover.
March 24, 2019:
The new kid got here about 11:00 - 3 YO Rocky. He's a big boy. I consider him a light silver mutt. You can't see it in the pictures but he has a black square on his left midsection if I remember correctly. The toys on the floor are what her pulled out from under the blanket to deposit right where he left them. I put him in his cage before meds, I found him sleeping in the poo pan. I showed him the hammock he made his way into the sleep box instead. I offered him some soup, he took a few drops then started gagging. He may not acclimate to shelter life as easily as I had hoped. Tomorrow will tell me when I look in his poo box.
Initial Contact, March 12, 2019:
Good evening, It is with a painful heart that I have to surrender my loving ferret. He (Rocky) is 3 years old and in great health along with being up to date on his shots. Documentation will be provided. I am moving out of state due to my fiancé being in the Military and I am unable to take him with me. We got a call from Tompkins County SPCA last night, they have 2 ferrets. Megan wanted to know if we could take them. I told her we would. Megan, said she needed to take our answer to the powers that be.
I came upon your page and know he would be so happy here. Please let me know if you have any availability.

I drive school bus for a living, I am in and out all day. Up at 3 am, bed at 6pm. Is there any way we can do a weekend?
